Association for the Protection of Pistachio of Raffadali DOP 

The association for the protection of Raffadali Pistachio has sent to MIPAAF the application for the recognition, pursuant to EU Reg 1151/2012, of the DOP Pistachio of Raffadali denomination.

Following the investigation  and the favorable opinion of the Sicilian Region, a disciplinary proposal was drawn up which will be read in the public assessment with the officials of MIPAAFT on 21 September 2018 at 4 pm: 00 at the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Raffadali located in via Porta Palermo, 27;

  With this notice of ;Convocation of the Public Assessment Meeting, the Association  for the protection of the Pistachio of Raffadali, as subject requesting the recognition request to participate in the meeting the municipalities of: Raffadali, Joppolo Giancaxio, Santa Elisabetta, Agrigento, Cianciana, Favara, Racalmuto, Sant'Angelo Muxaro, San Biagio Platani, Cattolica Eraclea, Casteltermini, Santo Stefano Quisquina, Aragona, professional organizations of the Category , the producers and economic operators concerned.

DESCRIPTION
The Protected Designation of Origin Pistachio di Raffadali PDO is reserved for the product, in shell, peeled or peeled, of plants of the botanical species, Pistacia vera, cultivar; Napoletana, also called; Bianca; Nostrana; grafted onto "Pistacia; terebinthus »commonly called (Scornabeccu).
PRODUCTION AREA
The production area of the Pistachio of Raffadali PDO falls within the boundaries of the following Municipalities of the Province of Agrigento: Raffadali, Joppolo Giancaxio, Santa Elisabetta, Agrigento, Cianciana, Favara, Racalmuto, ;Angelo Muxaro, San Biagio Platani, Cattolica Eraclea, Casteltermini, Santo Stefano Quisquina, Aragona, Comitini, Grotte, Montallegro, Alessandria della Rocca, Siculiana, Realmonte, Naro, Porto Empedocle, Castrofilippo, Campobello di Licata, Ribera, Canicatti, Palma di Montechiaro, Ravanusa, Camastra; Montedoro and Serradifalco in the province of Caltanissetta, in the Sicily region.
 
APPEARANCE AND TASTE
The Pistachio of Raffadali PDO is characterized by an elongated shape and a green color. The taste is sweet, pleasant and pronounced and it is very rich in oil.
